Janet Ament de la Roche
American, 1916-2000

Artist Janet Ament de la Roche was born in Hollywood, California on December 31, 1916. She studied painting at the Otis, Chouinard, and Jepson art institutes in Los Angeles. In 1947 she met and soon married artist Victor Di Gesu. The couple spent four years in Europe doing further studies in Paris at Académie de la Grande Chaumiere and Andre L’Hote Institute, and in Barcelona at Escuela de Belles Artes de San Jorge.

Upon returning to California in 1956, they settled on the Monterey Peninsula, built a home in Pacific Grove, and both juried into the Carmel Art Association as Artist Members. After Victor died in 1988, Janet continued to be active with the local art scene until her demise on April 15, 2000. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Louvre and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
