Sheila Delimont and Kate Martin convey their love of the Western landscape in the paintings for their new exhibit. Both of these women became members of the Carmel Art Association in 2017 and have joined together for the first time to share their interpretations of our dramatic coastal and mountain environments.
Kate is primarily a plein air painter who strives to capture the mood, light and atmosphere of the scene she is observing. She works quickly, making intuitive decisions as she preserves the essence of the landscape. For this collection of oils, however, Kate painted exclusively in studio.
Sheila works in her studio, creating large-scale oil paintings that evolve over many sessions at her easel. She seeks to capture the atmosphere of the location – the feeling of “being there.”
Both artists have a deep emotional connection to the places they paint. The dramatic coastline is exhilarating with its precipices and stunning views. The coastal marshes are restorative with their serene waterways and wildlife. The canyons are sculptural with bright colors. Dramatic storms, sunlit days, and encroaching fog bring ever-changing moods to these environments and provide never-ending painting opportunities for both artists.
Enjoy viewing their painterly depictions of our beautiful coastal and canyon landscapes.
