Sheila Delimont / Kate Martin

Dates: July 8, 2021

- August 2, 2021

Sheila Delimont and Kate Martin convey their love of the Western landscape in the paintings for their new exhibit. Both of these women became members of the Carmel Art Association in 2017 and have joined together for the first time to share their interpretations of our dramatic coastal and mountain environments.

Kate is primarily a plein air painter who strives to capture the mood, light and atmosphere  of the scene she is observing. She works quickly, making intuitive decisions as she preserves the essence of the landscape. For this collection of oils, however, Kate painted exclusively in studio.

Sheila works in her studio, creating large-scale oil paintings that evolve over many sessions at her easel. She seeks to capture the atmosphere of the location – the feeling of “being there.”

Both artists have a deep emotional connection to the places they paint. The dramatic coastline is exhilarating with its precipices and stunning views. The coastal marshes are restorative with their serene waterways and wildlife. The canyons are sculptural with bright colors. Dramatic storms, sunlit days, and encroaching fog bring ever-changing moods to these environments and provide never-ending painting opportunities for both artists.

Enjoy viewing their painterly depictions of our beautiful coastal and canyon landscapes.

Peggy Jelmini / Richard Tette

California Landscapes

Dates
July 8, 2021 – August 2, 2021

Peggy Jelmini and Richard Tette pair up for a dual Showcase exhibition. The two painters depict warm and serene scenes of familiar, Central Coast environments. Their interpretations and techniques in handling their mediums vary: Tette’s pointillistic application of acrylic paint may seem in contrast to Jelmini’s gestural expressionism in oil, however they are both naturals at depicting the essence of each landscape they create from their imaginations or their memories.

43 years later they are having their second dual exhibition in the Beardsley Room of the CAA.

They felt it was about time.

New Work

Dates
June 3, 2021 – July 5, 2021

This show has given me the opportunity to further explore some ongoing series, as well as to try something new.  The confusion and uncertainty of the world's past fourteen months definitely impacted my work. I had more time to paint. While I often found solace in exploring familiar themes, my paintings sometimes took me in surprising directions.  I still remain thoroughly engaged with abstraction, and I continue to write stories in paint that can be read differently and understood personally by each viewer.
