Meditations on Water–Water has often been featured in my work as part of landscapes that celebrate color, light, space and place. I wanted to push beyond appearances to create this new body of work to explore ideas beyond knowing or certainty. This is a period in which things that seemed routine are suddenly complex or without answer. Water, rivers, the sea are metaphors for cycles, life, spirit, after life. Pounding waves soothe me, as do the quiet waters of the Carmel River. Light and movement flicker and disappear in myriad patterns on water’s surface. Below the surface mysteries abound.
