Micah Curtis

Raised in Big Sur in a family of artists, writers and craftspersons, Curtis learned welding at the age of twelve and began a life-time working in metal. “I’d like to think I was on the same wavelength as (Barbara) Hepworth. She has a way of grouping weights so that her work is always more than the sum of its parts, because of their interactions and tensions.” Curtis’s monumental steel sculptures meticulously crafted, buffed, polished or rough-finished cut into space – sometimes sensuous, sometimes stark, but always decisive and evocative. Each of his works is one-of-a-kind: a product of his own unique vision – heroic, exciting and finely made.
