American 1917-1998

Joined Carmel Art Association in 1958. Painter; preferred subject matter: florals, seascapes and landscapes.

Helen Barker was raised in Los Angeles in a talented family, interested in art and music. She studied briefly with Christian Von Schneideu in Los Angeles.

Previous Memberships include the Scandinavian American Art Society, Los Angeles, and the Society of Western Artists, San Francisco.

“When I first moved to the Carmel area, I met Donald Teague who took an interest in my work and gave me much encouragement and critiques. He advised me not to study with anyone, but to just keep painting. Nell Walker Warner inspired me to paint florals. I am mostly self-taught in all media.”
