This bold, conceptual exhibition fills the CAA’s center gallery with a wild menagerie of interchangeable heads, torsos, and appendages. This show draws its inspiration from the Surrealists whose movement developed in post-World War I Europe. The seventeen CAA painters and printmakers who are participating in A Moveable Beast borrow from the Surrealist’s parlor game known as Exquisite Corpse in which a “being” is drawn blindly, composed of three separate artworks created by three different artists.
Each CAA artist adds to a composition in sequence: one creating a head, another creating a torso and a third creating the legs and feet. A show like this has never been put on before at the CAA, so you won’t want to miss it!
