Helene likes color - as strong as possible, using it directly from the tube of paint. Any blending she does directly on the canvas, not on a palette. She tries to get the light showing through the color for a stained-glass effect, capturing the essence of an imaginary flower's glow.
She received a degree in painting from Hunter College in New York City where she studied watercolor with Dong Kingman. She also worked in textile designing and one of her designs was published in a book by William Hennessey, "Modern Furnishings for the Home."
Helene also studied at the Art Students League with Reginald Marsh and Harry Sternberg, and at the College of San Mateo with Alanson Appleton.
